This tour takes you around Athens’ main attractions, both ancient and modern, following on the itineraries of the Full Day Athens City Tours in a 4.5-hour schedule that covers all the essential destinations of the inner city.
After pickup from the hotel, the tour follows a path along Athens’ must-see antiquities, like the Acropolis and the New Acropolis Museum, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.
Another essential landmark is the Panathenaic Stadium, also known by locals as the Kallimarmaro (beautiful marble). It was originally built in the 4th century BC, and was restored for the first Olympic Games of modern times in 1896, remaining in use for athletic and cultural events to this day.
The route also takes us to the heart of the modern capital city, at the Syntagma (Constitution) Square that lies across the Greek Parliament building and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with the Presidential Guard (Evzones).
Another prominent attraction of this tour is a collection of 19th-century buildings, including the National & Kapodestrian University of Athens, the Academy of Athens, the National Library of Greece and the Zappeion cultural center in the National Garden of Athens, painting a vibrant image of how the city must have looked in the early days of its modern era.
