    Overview

The two-day tour to the Peloponnese centers on an important hub of Greek history around the ancient cities of Corinth, Nemea, Mycenae and Epidaurus.

The area also includes the picturesque first capital of Greece, Nafplio, as well as local wineries and an olive oil factory, offering a taste of the local production that has characterized this region since antiquity.

    See detailed program

Starting from Athens, the first stop is at the Corinth Isthmus, the canal that separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese region.

Nearby Nemea is famous as a wine-producing region and our tour takes us to an award winning winery for a guided tour and tasting session.

We then proceed to Mycenae, the mythical capital of King Agamemnon, with its Bronze Age citadel, vaulted tombs and Cyclopean walls.

The day ends in Nafplio, the city that in 1829 was declared the first capital of liberated Greece.
Staying here overnight, the rest of the day is free for serene walks by the sea, or in the cobbled streets of the old city that are abundant with restaurants, bars and shops.
The second day starts with a visit to the small but excellent Archaeological Museum of Nafplio and the Palamidi fortress, an important 17th century stronghold originally built by Venetians on top of the 236m hill that overlooks the city, offering splendid panoramas.

After sampling some fine Greek ouzo, we head east to Epidaurus, home of the fully operational Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, which is renowned for its natural acoustics, as ordinary words from the stage can be heard by all 14,000 spectators.

Before heading back to Athens, we make one last stop at an olive oil production facility to learn more about Greece's oldest export product.
